Hello! My name is Kevin Gortney and I teach 8th grade science at Presidio Middle School in San Francisco Unified School District. I've been teaching science for almost 24 years. I like to make learning science fun and engaging by using lots of hands on activities that help student discover connections and concepts. I like to foster a sense of awe and wonder about how and why things work in the universe. I do this in a variety of ways but one of my favorite things is to use discrepant events and have students figure out and explanation what they observed. This would include devising a model/explanation as well as devising their own followup investigations.
