Wiggle Room in the Classroom. Our building practices inclusion and values placing students of all abilities in the least restrictive environment. For this reason our special education students spend the majority of their time in the general education classroom participating in all activities with the rest of their peers. They need the following items to aid with focus which is a skill difficult for any student to master, later on a student with disabilities. We have a great need for, Sit Fits, Textured cards, Fidgets and Noise Cancelling Headphones. Sit fits to allow for movement while the students remain in their seats as well as minimize the fatigue that comes from sitting for long periods of time. Bouncy bands can be attached to any chair for the student to push or pull with their legs, again allowing movement of feet and improved focus, while fidgets are to occupy their hands during non-writing activities. Of equally notable importance are the noise cancelling headphones. Sometime the general education classrooms become audibly overstimulating for some students. These headphones can be worn by students as needed so as to reduce the amount of noise they take in and be able to focus on the task at hand. All these items are portable and students can take them around the building, from class to class. While these and many other items are necessary for the success of all our students, our school has very limited resources, hence this appeal. Your help will make it possible for my students to benefit more from the inclusion process and enjoy their learning process.
