When students use graphing calculators, they actually see the effect different concepts have on graphs. Calculus is the finality of all math you take in high school. It is the application of all you learn in 9-11 grade math. When you put calculus on a graphing calculator, the concepts come alive! Graphing calculators actually allow you to see how the computations you do by hand are applied in the graphing context. When students have graphing calculators, they can see how a derivative is found in a function and what exactly the derivative means. It takes away the abstract and they see the concrete. Graphing calculators allow us to solve real world problems and not spend time on the minute tedious tasks but see the big picture!
