LEGO Mindstorms will provide hands-on access across all levels of technical ability and knowledge. They will be used in ECS (Exploring Computer Science) classes with visual programming tools to introduce students with no prior technology experience to basic software development processes in a non-threatening environment. Our AP Computer Science classes can use them with the high-level languages that are used in the commercial software development industry to gain in-depth knowledge of computer concepts. The AP students will also be creating artifacts necessary for their AP testing. Across all levels the students will be able to collaborate to build and program the Mindstorms, and will see how the code that they write can have an observable impact in the real world. Finally, the Mindstorms will be used by our Technology Students Association club to present technology concepts to our affiliated elementary school students. Your support of this project will not only benefit the high school computer technology and programming classes, it will also let the TSA (Technical Student Association) Club provide STEM demonstrations to the local Elementary students in an accessible manner, helping to promote an early interest in Science and Technology. The flexibility of the Mindstorms as well as their non-threatening nature makes them an ideal tool to grow STEM interest and knowledge in all levels of students.
