Students with special needs require educational skills, home life skills, social skills, and motor development. Through using the materials requested, students increase their fine and gross motor skills that are foundation skills for reading, writing, math, and life skills necessary to be successful. One example of how these materials are important and necessary for my students is the pegged puzzle set increases students' ability to grasp pencils and promote fine motor development along with thought processing skills. String beads and using tongs and tweezers for lessons also build hand strength and coordination. These skills prepare students for writing, math, reading, and life skills they will carry with them as learners.
