My students are in my self contained class and while that in no way diminishes their capabilities they do tend to have to play catch up in third grade. A lot of my students are reading below their grade level, and the requested guided reading fiction and nonfiction books will help them to keep improving and becoming better readers. When it is time to read independently, they need to have books on their level so this action is possible. Sometimes students hate reading because it has been so challenging or their books have been boring; with the right books and books on their level I think we can make real strides! I want them to be as independent as possible and be proud of their accomplishments.
