My school is a bilingual dual-immersion school in San Jose, California. This means that students are instructed for half of the day in Spanish, and for half of the day in English. Students come from a wide range of backgrounds, and linguistic preferences. I teach in a school where roughly 70% of students are English Language Learners, and over 90% of students are Latinx. Roughly 70% of students receive free or reduced lunch. Despite the statistics, my students are incredibly bright, curious scholars who will impact the world around them. Students are passionate to explore their academic interests and take ownership of their learning. They are also proud of their multicultural and multilinguistic heritage, which is a unique component of the community in which I teach.
