In kindergarten it is important for each student to have their own defined space to learn. When sitting at the carpet during whole group instruction, most kindergarteners struggle to stay in their own space. Interruptions take away from valuable learning time. With the purchase of this rug, students would have their own defined learning space. Students participate in phonics/writing lessons, interactive read alouds and math talks while at the rug. The colored squares on the rug would allow me to use the rug as a classroom management tool as well. I would be able to call on specific colored squares to answer questions aloud or pair students by color to deepen learning experiences. The colored squares would also help with staggered release when needed. Students would enjoy finding different letters of the alphabet as we discuss each letter and sound. We would use the outer dark blue area to define our circle space for shared writing, campfire share and singing along to our weekly poems.
