Children often aspire to be like the the characters they read about in books. Our classroom lacks books that are culturally relevant to students. These books have main characters who look like them and live through similar life struggles. Having culturally relevant books that are accessible and organized in our classroom library will allow for my students to see themselves reflected in literature. These books will be used as resources to help students engage critically with the world around them. In third grade we read aloud to practice essential literacy skills. Your kind donations will help captivate student interest therefore facilitating practice and retention of skills.
