As a first year teacher, I am continuously trying to build an updated classroom library to continue my students' love for reading. I believe strongly in using small reading groups and book clubs to help students not just develop better reading habits and to raise their reading levels, but to teach them how to talk about books in a passionate and loving manner. Students are not just learning academically, they are developing their social emotional skills through interaction and discussion about books. The more choices I have of books for my students, the more likely they will be to find something they will be interested in reading. Learning to love reading at a young age can ignite a fire in the hearts of students from which a lifelong love for books can thrive. I hope that by making available an extensive variety of books in my library, all my students will find a favorite book they will cherish forever.
