By supporting this project, my students will be able to read a book of their choice from our listening center with the students CD players. Students will choose the story they are most interested in listening to and follow along in the book as the story is read to them. With an individualized listening center like this, student choice and differentiation is promoted which results in highly effective engagement and rich literacy experiences for each child. Furthermore, not only do students enjoy listening to stories being read aloud but it is one of the most important ways to foster children’s emerging language and literacy skills. As this is one of our literacy centers, an effective listening center will enable me to work with other students in small reading groups and better meet the literacy needs of all my students.
