Many of my students come from single parent homes and can't afford to play sports or even enjoy such things as going to a bowling alley or playing putt putt golf. I plan to use the golf sets to set up a putt putt course in the gym for students to rotate through. I would use obstacles such as pool noodles and small ramps to create various putting challenges to make the putt putt activity more realistic. Lighter bowling balls would be more appropriate for children to handle when participating in my bowling unit. My main goal is to have as many students safely active at once by rotating them through various sports stations. This allows students to not wait for their turn to play and it offers a variety of activities at the same time. This also provides my students the opportunity to participate in sports that they might otherwise never get the chance to play due to the lack of financial means at home. I plan to use the hurdles, agility ladder, and timing devices with older students to provide some competitive races with each other. This provides the opportunity to reinforce good sportsmanship. My school also has an Autism classroom and two EBD (emotional behavior disorder) classrooms that come to PE. I try to offer alternate activities to meet these students' needs, as well as offer them an area for sensory exploration and stress release. The sensory balls and stress balls will provide manipulatives for my special needs students when they need a break from the over-stimulation they sometimes feel in PE.
