It's hard to exaggerate how many ways we can use wire, and the breadth of skills and ideas students can come away with if they are able to use such a great material! Elementary students love working in three dimensions, and their excitement motivates them to approach challenges with patience and persistence. My students will dip into engineering by balancing wire and shapes in a Calder-style mobile. We can "defy" gravity with art that uses wind in the style of George Rickey. They will make apertures to support paper-mache creations with geometric edges. They will use scientific observation to create insect sculptures. They will use wire in relief sculptures showing fossils. They will observe and use proportions to make human sculptures in motion. We really appreciate your generosity!
