Modeling is an effective instructional strategy in that it allows students to observe the teacher's thought processes. The Elmo will enhance these observations. As I have a class of 25 (some of them who speak very little English), it is hard to model my expectations to all 25 of them so that they can clearly see and understand. With the Elmo, I can model and explain things clearer. During literacy I can use it to model the expectations of our writer’s workshop. During science, I can use it as a guiding tool as we make our way through our Scholastic News. During math I can model and demonstrate our math practices; I can put the manipulatives under the Elmo and demonstrate and model in a larger view to all the students to see clearly. I can use this Elmo every day in my teaching in many different, but very effective, ways. A listening center in your classroom can enrich the students multi-sensory experiences with books. Listening to a book on a tape can be motivating for young learners as they will experience expression during their reading and sound effects which will allow them to understand the reading on a deeper level. The more the students listen, the more vocabulary the students will learn. I will use the listening center on a weekly, almost daily, basis, as students get a large amount of learning from it, and it is engaging for them.
