This year we are focusing on Reader's Workshop in our district. With the brand new ELA curriculum adoption of Lucy Calkins Units of Study for Teaching Reading, my students' time in books will increase dramatically. Due to the fact that we will be in multiple sessions throughout our day, time to get into a book and having a variety of genres at their fingertips, a way to manage this is important. A key fundamental to make this program successful is for the teacher to establish a system for students to manage books and materials at school, as well as between school and home. With 30 kids in a small portable classroom, storage is at a premium. These book bags will alleviate the issue of space, allow quicker transitions to reading time, and provide students a convenient and safe way to bring their reading materials home and back.
