My students are part of a rural school district in the Midwest in a high school of about seven hundred ninth through twelfth grade students. I teach a variety of different senior-level English classes that each range in size from twenty to thirty students. Reading is so important to every aspect of life. It is imperative students have books they can see themselves in. Then they discover the joy and value in reading and become proficient, passionate readers. As a new chapter leader for Project LIT Community, it has become my mission to flood my classroom and community with high-quality, culturally relevant books, making my students better informed and engaged citizens, more enthusiastic readers, and more empathetic humans.
