Every class at my school will receive a pedometer. Students will take turns wearing their pedometer and recording their steps every day. Our school will track these steps and we will travel all over our state. We will even have friendly class competitions to encourage movement throughout the day. Childhood obesity has tripled in the last 10 years for a couple of different reasons such as the increase of video games and technology. Our children are spending less time outside playing and more time in front of their iPads and TV. I believe that my school wide walking program, with the use of our pedometers, can help our students and teachers become more aware of their physical activity and encourage them to move more before, during and after school. My hope is that our children will try new activities and develop a new love in walking or even sports while tracking all of their steps and earning points for their class and our school!
