My students will make observations through out the day, and enter their data into the website for Project Feeder Watch. I need the supplies to create two bird feeder stations outside two windows in my classroom. The bird feeders will be filled with 3 different types of bird seed to attract a variety of birds. These two windows open up to two different sides of our building so having two Sheppard hooks, two long feeders, 2 suet feeders, 2 short feeders will create two different viewing areas. These will be put up for winter feeding. Two hummingbird feeders will be placed on each of the hooks to attract hummingbirds during their season. They will be learning to identify several species of birds, learning to make observations and record data, learning how to use the computer and keyboard, and learning how to research. Students will be learning through hands on application. They will become scientists! They will be learning how ecosystems work, how climate change effects animals and their patterns, and adaptations. I want to create an environment were students are excited to come to school everyday, and I want them to transfer this to their home life. I believe this project could create a love for the outdoors, and I believe it will be a project they will carry with them for a lifetime.
