"Sitting still is overrated. It makes sense for the opera or for meditating, but in most classrooms and child care centers, it's given far more honor than it deserves. Children need to move." I believe it is imperative that students move around and be comfortable in their classroom, where they spend the majority of their day! In addition to seating options, students need flexible desktops which encourage healthy learners because students are able to stand rather than remain sedentary. Many times, my students are cramped and uncomfortable trying to fit everything on their desks while working collaboratively. Time and time again, they ask for more space or the ability to stand while working or listening. The addition of having to sit in other classes for an extended period of time adds to their desperation. The inclusion of these desks will eliminate their woes and provide for a more dynamic and personalized learning experience. All students will benefit, because activity is necessary and crucial to learning.
