As a school in a diverse community, it is important that each of our students feels represented in our classroom library. I want my students to experience texts that center our society's most marginalized voices. These affirming books will help spark conversations of acceptance, justice, and action. My students deserve to read books that feature characters who look like them. This collection of books is just the beginning of an intentional library that celebrates students of all backgrounds. With these texts, my students will have opportunities to build empathy, discuss inequity, and have open and honest conversations about race.
