Science standards have changed for the state of Indiana. They are centered on reading comprehension and writing skills. Incorporation of these magazines will allow students to be exposed a variety of scientific subjects as they enhance the literacy skills developed in their English Language Arts classes. These science magazines will be a springboard to learning in my classroom. The high poverty level of these students prohibits them from being exposed to museums, zoos, and other science related experiences. However, the introduction of these magazines to the classroom will spark interest in science they may have never known about. The students can then be in charge of the learning as they drive instruction toward their interests.
