Last year my students complained that they could not move in their seats and they got tired of "just sitting." This was the beginning of our class brainstorming session for flexible seating. I have stools at my guided reading table that the kids were moving around on and they kept breaking. The students thought it would be great if they made stools that you did not have to sit still on. I then showed them a picture of Wobble Stools. The students decided to come up with a list of flexible seating options they would enjoy. They would love to have stools, balance ball seats, and yoga mats. Our school mission is "Growing Healthy Kids in a Healthy World"; having flexible seating options feeds right into our philosophy. Students will be able to burn calories, stay active, strengthen their core, and stay focused on their work. Being able to wiggle, wobble, stretch, and move will make all of the difference in the students day in our classroom. We will be able to get exercise all day and find our "Super Powers".
