Our goal is to improve inquiry skills throughout our learning. The Osmo kits will utilize the iPads we have available to our classroom, in mathematics, literacy, and creative curiosity, without using traditional apps, making the iPad a useful tool in the classroom. We are encouraging everyone to find creative ways to bring technology into the learning experience without relying on app "games". Osmo has hands-on learning pieces that bring the experience to a new level and advance as the children problem solve and grow. The Lakeshore Design and Build Engineering Centers are for the children who need to know how something is built, and just because somebody built it, how does it work? By having kits such as these in the science/math center, the children can use their own curiosity and see how engineering comes into everyday life. The Lakeshore Fairy Tale problem solving STEM kit is a great way to re-enact nursery rhymes and the challenges the characters faced. Using the inquiry method, we will use the kit to retell the story and put into general practice the scientific inquiry method. These tools will help the children to form a hypothesis, test the hypothesis, and make conclusions based on their experimenting. When children are naturally curious and excited to learn, that is the best time to connect them with the next level of learning. These items will help to bridge the gap of just using apps on an iPad to turning the iPad into a TOOL used to grow, learn, and become a resource, as well as using hands-on learning to test the scientific method.
