Each year my FBLA students host community Veterans at our Veterans Day Program. During the program we honor the veterans by playing the anthem of each of the five military branches. Veterans are invited to stand while their song plays and their branch flag is presented. In the past we have borrowed a set of flags from local organizations to use for our program - they are delivered an hour before the program and picked up immediately following the program. While we are grateful to be allowed to borrow the set, this timeline does not give my students time to practice proper flag protocol. Each year students are nervous about not being able to put the flag in the base in front of a large audience. More practice time will serve to boost their confidence. By having a set of flags available at school we can better honor those Veterans in our community for their service.
