With your help, every 5th and 6th grade student in my class will have their own Reading/Writing journal. We will use these journals every day to promote self expression through writing in our Language Arts class. I want my students to use their journals/notebooks to record their feelings and reactions to what they read in my class daily. Challenging my students in this way will push them to be better readers and writers. I expect we will go through many, many pencils (and erasers!) Not only do I want my students to be great readers and writers, I want to teach them how to be organized so they are prepared for middle school and beyond! Dividers and notebook labels will help my students stay organized from day one. Reading/Writing Journals will be separated into three sections and part of my students' grades will be maintaining an organized binder. Last, I want these journals to be fun and creative! Art supplies will make this possible. Students should be able to annotate, decorate, paste in and cut out of their journal.
