Students aren't meant to be confined to chairs for hours a day. Throughout the year I have been researching more ways to create a classroom that is more student centered. Flexible seating allows me to do just that! Not all students are meant to sit in a chair. They should have a flexibility to choose where they learn best and what's most comfortable for them. Having the option of sitting on the carpet with a lap desk, sitting on a wobble stool or sitting on a ball seat gives them the ability to wiggle and move when they need to but, also keep their focus! This maximizes time students can spend on their academic learning versus having to take frequent breaks. Flexible seating is a way for students to get out their excess energy and focus on, on-task behaviors.
