Having an entire set of the Young Hoosier books will allow my students the opportunity to achieve a reading goal that many aren't able to do. These award winning books allow students the opportunity to read books of different genres and levels.
This project not only allows the students to read different genres, it also helps us promote our reading programs and incentives in our school.
Providing our class with these books, will help the students become lifelong learners and readers. All of the elementary schools in my district are encouraged to participate in the Young Hoosier Reading Program. Students at the younger grades read picture books, however, my students will read more advanced picture books and chapter books. These books aren't always accessible at our school library and having a class set would allow my students more direct access to accomplish their goals of reading all these books.
Each year, Indiana releases a new list of Young Hoosier books to help excite the students in reading. My goal is to encourage and inspire my students to want to continue reading these books as well as future books of their choice.
