I work with students with special needs every day. These students can be often found sitting on the side, passively watching their peers participating in physical activities. Due to their physical deficits and struggles, these children lack the confidence to join their peers and participate. Giving them opportunities to try and exposure to physical activities, these students can engage in these activities in a safe place where they feel do not feel vulnerable and embarrassed. They can build the confidence they need to participate with their peers during recess and become actively engaged in building their gross motor skills and learning to live active, healthy lifestyles! Movement while learning creates for more permeate learning! And permanent learning is what we want! There are so many wonderful ways out there we can support that in the classroom.
