Third grade children start reading for a purpose rather than just sounding out words. Unfortunately, with all the lengthy standardized tests they feel like reading is a job rather than a hobby or for simple enjoyment. I would like to spend this year helping to change my student's mindset to reading as an enjoyable, exciting hobby instead of a mandatory job. The bean bag chairs and pillows will help their reading oasis be much more comfortable and inviting. They are vinyl so they are easy to clean and fire resistant. Both reasons are very important in an elementary classroom!! The bean bag chairs and pillows will help provide a getaway space that will set the atomosphere for this experience. I would like to start a reading nook. A place where students can finish their work and anxiously want to begin reading. Something that they choose rather than an expectation they feel forced to do.
