My students grasp concepts and learn content when they are engaged. Technology is NOT the engagement piece. It is through class and student-led projects that memorable experiences are created and technology helps. Technology is a vehicle for learning. It will enhance the process that my middle school students undergo in order to reach their projects goals. With Chromebooks in the classroom, students are able to do research, collaborate via google classroom and google doc and create digital portfolios of their middle school math experience. Technology in my school is all of three Chromebook carts and one iPad cart shared throughout the building (K-8th grade). When carts are being serviced or particular grade levels are taking computer-based standardized tests, my classroom is affected, which brings me to another point. Tests that influences whether my 6th and 8th graders will be promoted are taken on computers. It is important that my students know everything about the computers that will be used for testing. My students have to practice typing in a timely manner (you would be surprised how long it takes them to type a sentence). Students having access to technology in the classroom is beneficial to the learning environment.
