Students in my classroom come from a variety of different situations, some of my class are from affluent families who can drop $100 on a calculator without a second thought, and some students do not. It's that second group of students who I concern myself with here. All students in my room need a graphing calculator to be successful, using a slide rule to calculate logs and antiderivatives is just not going to work in 2016.
Students need access to equal technology to be on the same playing field, they should not be held back because their families do not have the luxury to afford a tool that is essential for success. Honestly the other items I am requesting: batteries, cords, colored pencils and markers are all luxury items compared to the essential calculator. I even removed other items because I feel these calculators are the most important and most needed items in my room. I do not need calculators for every student I teach, but for my students who need, they truly need.
I thank you in advance for your help and am blessed to have the opportunity through this outlet to ask for it.
