My students are unique individuals with personal preferences for how they work on any given project or activity. Some like to stand while they work, some need a little movement to help them focus, some would prefer to be spread out on the floor. My goal is to do whatever I can to help them be successful. These materials will help me make my classroom a place where students will be more comfortable and successful. By making them as comfortable and focused on their learning as possible I can help them make great strides with their literacy skills and content knowledge. Additionally, this variety in learning spaces will help them learn what kind of learner they are and what they need to be successful, which they can carry on with them when they leave my classroom. The supplies on the list meet a myriad of needs for my students. The yoga mats allow for comfortable seating on the ground. When placed together they will make a whole group learning area. Used separately, they become individual spaces for floor work or reading. They can be rolled or folded for additional support and even be brought outside for outdoor lessons. The Lap trays can be used for students who work most comfortable on the floor, but need a surface to work on. Balance discs are a tried and true resource for the classroom. They allow students to "wiggle while they work" which actually helps them focus and gives them some movement. Desk carts and laptop tables are for students who would prefer to stand while or be elevated as they work unbalanced on stools. Finally the lights and salt lamps improve the lighting and classroom atmosphere and the dish drainer keeps materials organized.
