Every day , my students learn to read in small groups that engage in a variety of literacy-building practices: reading independently, reading with a partner, listening to reading, working on writing, and studying spelling words. Students' independence with reading is built by their ability to choose which literacy activities they engage with at a given moment. As part of their group work, my students need to be engaging with technology on a regular basis. There are so many great ways to harness technology to help students with literacy skills and to allow students to discover new interests and explore their own ideas. I cannot emphasize enough how much of a difference this project will make to my students' futures. Gaining access to these essential materials will make them not only academically prepared second graders, but lifelong readers and self-directed learners.
