We have been working hard to create a green space for our students to learn outside, but they can't be outside all the time especially during the cold winter months. The addition of flexible seating in my classroom will give my students the opportunity to move more frequently throughout the day. Flexible Seating (sitting in bean bag chairs, yoga balls, the floor, traditional tables and more) will allow my students to make choices about the learning space that works best for them. This fall I would like to add some of options to my classroom, and I need your help to do this. There are no general funds available for any new furniture at my school and many pieces of furniture have been in the building since it opened and are damaged and unusable. The ability to make choices on their seating will allow my students to be more active, build independence, increase motivation, improve engagement, and will result in happier, more productive children. Children who have choices about their seating will be able to foster independence and discover how to self regulate their extra energy and create healthy lifelong habits. The benefits of flexible seating for my students include, but are not limited to increased motivation, increased opportunities for movement and physical activity, developing core strength and improving the health and wellness of my students.
