My students will have many more books to choose from at his/her level. Our literacy stations will also be more engaging and exciting while providing wonderful opportunities to learn. Less worksheets and more hands-on! First grade is THE year students learn to read. It is also the first year they are writing on a daily basis. We work in high frequency words and phonics everyday. My students need a variety of opportunities to practice these skills and keep them engaged. Not every student begins the year at the same level so having more leveled materials is necessary to promote learning and build confidence.
