I am transitioning my students from desks and chairs to an alternative seating arrangement. They will be able to choose where they would like to sit and what they would like to sit on. Just like adults at Starbucks, children are able to focus better and longer if they are comfortable too! Student achievement is higher when their attention span is increased. Not only does this project allow my students to have an outlet to move during instruction without disruption, it will help the ones with sensory issues by giving them the power of choice for what feels best to them. With no two students being just alike, allowing them to decide what works best for them, gives my 3rd graders independent choice, that is conducive to becoming independent learners.
