I am on a mission to make sure every child in my building can read by third grade. I have been a classroom teacher in the inner city for 15 years. I am currently at a charter school. I have seen first hand the number of children in grades K-2 who need intensive support in order to be proficient in reading and writing by third grade. I decided to take matters into my own hands. Last school year I designed and piloted a reading intervention program for struggling readers and writers. Administration in my building was supportive of my efforts. This year they will allow me to teach my program all day due to my success working with struggling readers during the pilot. I will see 3 struggling readers at a time and give them intensive instruction. I am so thrilled to be able to do this, however resources are limited.
