I am working to purchase sets of math and reading board games for my students to use as throughout the school year as a work station or center. These games are standards-based and will help students practice content we are working on without having to use typical drill, or worksheet-based, practice methods. While playing the games, students will get to collaborate and work with their peers while continuing to learn third-grade material, and also having fun. This will not only build their knowledge of the content we are working on, but will also help build classroom community. I believe that the games will help keep my students focused, engaged, and learning while I work with other small groups. They will reduce the chances of distraction or off-task, unproductive behavior during small group work time while also ensuring that the students continue to focus on the concept and learn.
