This project is to start an after school club to expose students to a wide variety of new games. Playing all sorts of games builds reasoning skills that are proven to help in math and logic problems. Word games like scrabble, boggle, and scattergories help develop vocabulary and creativity for English class. The club also gives students a productive and enjoyable alternative to watching tv or playing video games, and an opportunity to interact with their peers and teachers in a different way than in the normal school day. Games are an excellent way for students to improve their academics while having fun at the same time. It's a way for them to learn without realizing that they are learning. The goal of this project is to inspire a joy of school and learning through an exposure to all sorts of games most of my students have never played before. These games are ones that I continue to enjoy in my life as a young adult, so I can't wait to bring this same joy to my students!
