The socio-economic makeup of my students has changed dramatically over the past few years. Once middle class with a good amount of involved parents, I am now seeing more needy children whose parents are sometimes working two jobs to make ends meet. It is rare to find a non-working parent who has the time and/or inclination to offer enrichment activities that foster the mastery and love of reading. Some come to me still struggling to learn to read during a time they should be transitioning over to reading to learn.

About my class
