Our youngest learners are embarking on an exciting journey into the world of Forest School! Samara Community School is launching the first program of its kind, “Forest Fridays” right here in the Bronx, NY—with biweekly visits to the woodlands of the beautiful New York Botanical Garden. For the duration of the school year, throughout all four seasons and all weather, PreK students will take part in a full day of nature exploration and open-ended learning in the forest.
The generous donation of rain gear for our PreK students will ensure their warmth and safety during their outdoor learning time. In order for students to fully engage and enjoy the wonders of being in the woods through each changing season, they must feel comfortable and dry. The families we serve are unable to incur the cost and maintenance of the extra apparel needed for Forest Friday programming. As the facilitating teacher, I acknowledge the financial hardship outdoor programs can present for families due to the cost of special supplies. The selected waterproof coveralls, warm socks and rain boots ensure each child is equipped to explore and play in the forest.
