In our classroom we are ditching the traditional classroom furniture and dormant teaching methods. Forget the white notebook paper with blue lines. We want choices of colorful materials, a working sharpener, and flexible seating to heighten our engagement and interest. Flexible seating will provide students with opportunities to work productively in a differentiated environment. Think about where you work most effectively. Is it a desk or a comfy couch? Is it a stiff chair or beneath a fuzzy blanket. Flexibility is key when asking students to produce quality work in a timely manner. Personally most people work harder when they get to make choices along the way. We will use rugs, bean bags, and yoga pillows to accommodate each learner a comfortable place to learn and work. We will use colorful materials to inspire the creativity to flow freely.
