I am a kindergarten teacher in a low socio-economic school. The students are sweet children who attend a title one school where 93% of the families are considered economically needy and 73% are non-English speaking. Many of the students belong to families who are migrant and travel from state to state looking for work during different seasons. The teachers and staff at the school genuinely care for the students and their families, going above and beyond to ensure that they have what they need to succeed. Because many of the families work in the fields and very few of them speak English, most of the students attend after school programs, some until 6:00 pm, to ensure that they are safe and able to complete their homework with assistance.
