The majority of the students I work with are on the autism spectrum. I want to create an inclusive environment for all students who utilize the resource center. I have noise-canceling headphones but not a stand to store them. I bought a shoji screen earlier in the year, and the students have requested another. The lamps will be used on my table to make the lighting amenable to students who are neurodiverse. Returning to in-person learning has dramatically impacted the mental health of my students. Many of them are new to our program and are ashamed of having learning disabilities. The space I have created welcomes all students while keeping the needs of neuroatypical students in mind. So far, the response has been good to the resource room as it has become the home of many clubs. Students are learning to integrate while losing the shame they have developed after being taunted for years.
