My students face challenges from the very moment they wake up in the morning. I work with special needs students with disabilities ranging from emotional/behavioral disabilities, learning disabilities and autism. Despite the challenges they face daily these are students who are unique and wonderful in their own ways. My goal is to create a positive and flexible learning environment where they feel safe and engaged for learning every day. By providing flexible seating and engaging resources for my students, we are one step closer to closing the achievement gap and meeting the IEP goals of our students. I plan on using alternative seating, such as wobble seats, yoga balls and bean bag chairs to create a classroom where my students are motivated to learn and can work best. I want to provide my students with a space that will keep their bodies moving, and their brains engaged and active with hands on manipulatives, such as Boggle, Bananagrams, 24 and Uno to strengthen their ELA and math skills.
