Our classroom needs 4 iPods to create a listening center for all the students to enjoy during Centers. The students in my class love to read and listen to others read to them. With all of the curriculum the students are expected to learn we do not have time to read a story together everyday. If we have a listening center to use during our Centers the students will be able to listen and respond to a story everyday.
In the words of Frank Serafini, "There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right book." With so many great reading apps available the students in my class will have the opportunity to listen and read about things that they want to when using the iPods. They will be building a love for reading.
One of the most important things to learn in first grade is to learn how to read independently. Students who read 15 minutes a day will have read over 1 million words in a year. Having a listening center will improve the reading of all the students in my class.
