This Chromebook will mainly be used by my co-teacher. When I am out of the classroom for planning days, meetings, sick, etc.; which unfortunately happens a lot more than we would like; my assistant is left without a laptop. My students use my laptop for almost every lesson they complete. During reading we complete various flip charts and videos (letters and sight words). During math we play interactive math games and watch math related videos. During science/social studies we also watch related videos and complete tons of Brainpop Jr. videos and quizzes. In addition, throughout the entire day we complete several brain breaks, as need by my students. These interactive videos, games, and brain breaks help to get my students physically involved. Being able to get up and move around and manipulate lessons helps to keep the students involved and interested throughout the entire lessons. As I have stated before, when I am out of the room for planning days, meetings, sick days, etc. my assistant is left without a laptop as I have mine with me. When she is left without a laptop she is not able to complete any of these interactive lessons, games, videos, and/or brain breaks with our students. This tends to cause more behavior problems for several reasons. One, they are used to their usual routine, which includes all of these interactive activities. When you interrupt their routine it throws them off. Two, without being able to get up and move around and interact during the lessons the students tend to become restless and bored. If for nothing else, this Chromebook is definitely needed for our interactive brain breaks. Kindergarteners have lots of energy and this is the first time in a school setting for most of them. They need brain breaks every 10-15 minutes!
