Every student has different learning needs and different ways they learn best. The materials and resources I am requesting will provide students flexible seating options in the classroom, learning supports, socio-emotional resources/supports, and movement break resources. For flexible seating I am requesting 2 wobble stools, 2 chair cushions, a set of chair bands (helpful for students who kick their feet frequently), 2 standing desk balance boards, 2 stadium chair seats, and 2 stability ball chairs. Each of these seating options provides flexibility for students who may not necessarily find success sitting in a traditional chair and desk set up. Students in my class will have the choice to pick their learning spot each day, so these seating options will provide options for all students based on their needs each individual day. For learning supports I am requesting 4 pairs of noise cancelling headphones. Our classroom is a collaborative place, and many times students are working together in small groups. For some students this is helpful, but other students prefer to work in quiet environments without hearing extra sounds. Noise cancelling headphones have been especially helpful for students who are easily distracted by sound or just want to be able to work quietly. My last four requests are resources for students to use in the classroom. I am requesting two sets of "fidgets" for students who might struggle to pay attention for long periods of time or for students who might need sensory supports during the day. I am also requesting two sets of mindfulness activities to use with students throughout the year. These activities can be done with the whole class. Alternatively a student might choose to use one of the activities during a break.
