The funding for this project will purchase various locks, boxes, invisible ink pens and a flashlight which will be used to create 4 Breakout.EDU kits, which will be used as a classroom set. These kits will be used to host many Breakout.EDU sessions. Breakout.EDU turns the classroom into an “escape room” in which students have to use critical thinking skills to complete the challenge with a time constraint. Critical thinking skills are crucial for today's student. With Breakout.EDU critical thinking skills are sharpened through the challenge. Students use the tools in the kit to work in teams to solve puzzles, troubleshoot problems and complete challenges to unlock locks to escape the scenario. The final lock breaks the group out of the challenge if it is completed within a certain time frame. A culture of risk-taking is encouraged through the experience and learning takes place regardless if students are successful at breaking out or not. The kits can be used across many grade levels and for any subject matter. With a database of challenges already created, and more added daily, a class set provides endless learning opportunities year after year.
