High School students respond very well to earning points for treats. I have reached some of the hardest to reach kids through my positive point system. The system is designed to eventually help with intrinsic motivation. Often the earning of points and a treat gets their attention long enough for them to realize that they can be successful. This system also rewards those students who normally do well but get overlooked. I document student points with individual cards which sit on student desks as they do something great. I immediately verbally praise the student and punch their card with a special butterfly punch which they collect for treats.
